Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck in London removes excess skin from the lower abdomen below the umbilicus without repositioning the belly button. No drains required. Day case under TIVA or local anaesthetic at our CQC-regulated Baker Street clinic. From £5,995.

Mini Tummy Tuck (Mini Abdominoplasty) in London

A mini tummy tuck — medically known as a mini abdominoplastyremoves excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen below the umbilicus and tightens the lower abdominal muscles. Unlike a full abdominoplasty, the belly button is not repositioned. The incision is shorter, the procedure is less extensive, and is faster.

Mini abdominoplasty is appropriate for patients with localised lower abdominal skin laxity — a persistent lower abdominal pouch, loose skin below the belly button following pregnancy, or a C-section shelf — where the laxity is confined to the area below the umbilicus. Patients with skin laxity above the umbilicus, or with significant muscle separation extending above the navel, require a .

At Centre for Surgery, all mini tummy tucks include SAFElipo™ liposuction for waist in the same session. No drains are required. The procedure uses progressive tension sutures — a technique that eliminates the need for drains by securing the skin flap to the abdominal wall at multiple points during closure, preventing fluid accumulation without the need for external drainage. This makes the recovery more straightforward than after a full abdominoplasty. See: .

All procedures are performed as a day case at our by consultant surgeons on the GMC Register.

What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

A mini abdominoplasty addresses loose skin and fat in the lower — specifically the area between the pubic hairline and the umbilicus. The procedure does not involve repositioning the belly button, which remains in its original position throughout. This is the key anatomical distinction from a full abdominoplasty.

The incision is made along the lower abdomen just above the pubic hairlinesimilar in position and length to a scar, and well-concealed within the bikini line. The skin flap below the umbilicus is raised and pulled downward. Excess skin is excised and the lower abdominal muscles are tightened. Progressive tension sutures are used to secure the skin flap to the underlying tissue at multiple points during closureeliminating the need for drains.

SAFElipo™ liposuction of the flanks and waist is in the same session, extending the contouring effect beyond the lower abdomen.

Mini abdominoplasty is most effective for patients who have relatively good upper abdominal skin tone and muscle integrity, with a localised concern confined to the lower abdomen — the post-pregnancy pouch that persists despite exercise, loose skin below the belly button following weight loss, or a shelf.

Mini Tummy Tuck vs Full Tummy Tuck

The decision between a mini and full abdominoplasty depends on the anatomy of the individual — specifically, how far the skin laxity and muscle extend in relation to the umbilicus.

A common misconception is that a mini tummy tuck is a minor procedure with a full abdominoplasty — it is less extensive, but it is still surgery and produces a permanent scar. It is the right procedure for the right patient; for patients who genuinely need the full procedure, a mini tummy tuck will produce an incomplete result.

Your surgeon will assess the distribution of your skin laxity, the muscle anatomy and your BMI at consultation and confirm which procedure is appropriate.

Am I Suitable for a Mini Tummy Tuck?

A mini abdominoplasty is appropriate for patients with lower abdominal skin laxity confined below the umbilicus. It is not appropriate where skin laxity extends above the navel or where significant full-length diastasis recti is present.

Suitable candidates generally meet the following criteria:

Mini abdominoplasty is suited to younger patients with a lean body shape who have developed localised lower abdominal looseness following pregnancy, and to patients with a prominent C-section shelf where the skin mound above the scar is visible through clothing. For patients who have had a C-section, the mini tummy tuck incision is positioned to excise the C-section scar as part of the skin removal. See: .

The Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure

Mini abdominoplasty at Centre for Surgery is performed as a day case at our . The procedure takes one and a half to two and a half hours depending on the extent of liposuction included.

Mini abdominoplasty can be under or, for appropriate patients undergoing a limited procedure, under local anaesthetic with oral sedation. Your surgeon will confirm the most appropriate approach at consultation.

Your surgeon marks the incision line, the area of skin to be excised and the liposuction zones with you standing before the begins.

Unlike a full abdominoplasty, no drains are required after a mini tummy tuck. Progressive tension sutures prevent fluid accumulation, making the post-discharge recovery more straightforward and eliminating the drain removal appointment. See: .

Recovery After a Mini Tummy Tuck

Recovery from a mini abdominoplasty is faster and less than after a full tummy tuck — primarily because the procedure is less extensive and no drains are .

Swelling, and tightness below the umbilicus are expected. Pain is usually mild and managed with paracetamol. You are discharged the same day with written instructions.

Most patients take one to two weeks away from work for desk-based roles. The tightness in the lower abdomen gradually eases during this period. Light walking from day one is encouraged.

Worn continuously for six weeks. The garment supports the healing tissue, reduces swelling and promotes even skin retraction. Remove only briefly for showering.

Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for four weeks. Mild activity can gradually from two weeks. Full exercise can resume at six weeks. Abdominal core exercises should be avoided for three months.

Because no drains are inserted, there is no drain removal appointment — a significant advantage over full abdominoplasty recovery.

Initial are visible from around four weeks once swelling subsides. Final results including scar maturation are visible at 12 months.

Wound check with the nursing team at seven to ten days. Surgeon review at six weeks. Three-month assessment in your treatment package.

Risks of Mini Abdominoplasty

Mini abdominoplasty carries a lower overall risk profile than full abdominoplasty — the procedure is less extensive, no drains are used, and the skin flap raised is smaller. However, it remains a surgical procedure with genuine risks that are discussed in full at consultation.

All risks are discussed in full at consultation and documented in your consent paperwork.
