AUSTIN, Texas — Willie Nelson’s golf course and recording studio were padlocked Monday after the Internal Revenue seized the country music singer’s properties in six states to satisfy $6.5 million in back taxes. The property was seized less than two months after the IRS placed $16.7 million in liens on Nelson’s real estate holdings and personal property. Spokeswoman Sally Sassen said Nelson’s Pedernales County Club and recording studio just outside Austin would not be able to operate because of the seizures. Neither Nelson nor his attorney were available for comment. A complete inventory of the property taken by IRS agents late Friday was not available, but Sassen said property was also seized in Alabama, California, Colorado, Hawaii and Washington. Liens were filed on Nelson’s property in September to ensure payment of delinquent income taxes which were listed at $6.5 million in a court settlement Nelson and his estranged wife, Connie, reached with the IRS in June. The IRS claims the Nelsons owe back taxes from 1975 through 1982, except the 1979 tax year. Nelson’s major asset is his country club and recording studio. He bought the nine-hole course and clubhouse in 1979 for $250,000 and has done extensive remodeling.
