What is Stress Urinary Incontinence?

Stress incontinence is the passing of urine. Stress incontinence tends to occur when the bladder is under pressure, such as when you cough or laugh. This is a very common problem which affects millions of people. It is generally caused by a weakening of the pelvic floor muscles and the  sphincter.
There are certain factors which can the likelihood of stress urinary incontinence occurring, such as pregnancy, childbirth, family history of incontinence, obesity, or simply from ageing.
As this can negatively affect your life, many people will choose to seek out treatment. You can undertake pelvic floor exercises or try medication, however, this may not be a completely effective . Ideal Candidates for IncontiLase

You will be a suitable candidate for IncontiLase® if you have stress urinary incontinence and wish to treat this without surgery.

You must be at least 18 years old. A current normal cervical smear (Pap test) is required before treatment can begin. Active vaginal or urinary tract infections must be fully resolved before proceeding.

Before undergoing IncontiLase®, you will attend a consultation with our clinical team. They will assess whether IncontiLase® is appropriate for your presentation. What Does IncontiLase Involve?

For the majority of cases, two sessions of IncontiLase® at monthly intervals are sufficient to alleviate mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence. More sessions may be required for severe cases. No special preoperative preparations or postoperative precautions are necessary. You can immediately return to your normal everyday activities after each .

What To Expect

Your consultation takes place at our Baker Street clinic. Our clinical team will take a full medical and gynaecological history, assess the type and severity of urinary incontinence, and whether IncontiLase is appropriate. A current normal cervical smear result is before treatment can begin. Active vaginal or urinary tract infections must be resolved before proceeding. The number of sessions required is discussed at this appointmenttypically two sessions for mild to moderate incontinence, more for severe cases. A written treatment plan and itemised cost are confirmed before you leave. £1,200 per session; £3,600 for a full course of three sessions.

No special preparations are required for IncontiLase. No fasting is needed. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. Ensure you have a current normal cervical smear result — treatment cannot proceed without this. Any active vaginal or urinary tract infection must be fully resolved before treatment begins. There are no restrictions on eating, drinking, or medication before your session.

IncontiLase takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes per session. No anaesthetic is required. A Fotona vaginal handpiece delivers Er:YAG laser energy using the patented mode to the pelvic fascia and vaginal mucosa, particularly targeting the urethral and anterior bladder wall region. The thermal effect triggers collagen neogenesisshrinking and tightening the urethral support structures to reduce involuntary leakage. You may feel mild warmth during the procedure. Once complete, you can dress and leave immediately. No recovery time is required. Avoid sexual for 72 hours after each session.

Improvement in incontinence symptoms is typically noticed after the first or second session as collagen remodelling progressively strengthens the urethral . Clinical data shows 81% of women with severe stress urinary incontinence were symptom-free or had very mild symptoms following IncontiLase treatment.
