When EA Play took place earlier this year, EA hinted at their new **Battlefield ** game, which will be released sometime next year. Battlefield V was released back in 2018, and definitely did not live up to the hype and expectations that Battlefield 1 brought to fans of the series. The Battlefield series has had huge hits, such as Battlefield 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 , as well as disappointing lows such as Battlefield V and Battlefield: Hardline . On the other hand, the Call of Duty series has kept their fans happy with their recent games, especially with the massive success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare . Its exceptional battle royale mode, Warzone , has also been a huge attraction for Call of Duty play
That being said, taking that prototype gameplay at face value, it’s clear that EA is inferring these new improvements in player density/fidelity and destruction refinements will be Battlefield ‘s key factors of success for next-gen . That’s certainly not a bad thing, as having large-scale battlefields that evoke a simulation of war is exactly what Battlefield has done best in the past. The only major problem is that Battlefield 6 will need to make sure that these new additions are not just window dressing. One way Battlefield may be able to make a comeback is to improve their co-op and campaign modes. Last year, Battlefield V ‘s co-op mode was a sad, rushed mode that felt underwhelming and not prepared for release. Numerous issues, including a slow pace and a bad loot system, resulted in Firestorm being largely dismissed as one of the worst battle royale games out there. EA Play’s last few moments, at least before the announcement of Skate ‘s return, did show off some prototype gameplay of what appeared to be a Battlefield game. It’s unclear if it was specifically Battlefield 6 , as it showed what looked like World War II soldiers running across an untextured plane. This was likely a re-use of assets in a new/repurposed development environment, so it’s not indicative of a World War II setting or the final product by any means.
