Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of official details available surrounding the new game, though Microsoft did confirm that this Fable will be a new beginning for the franchise so fans shouldn’t expect Fable 4 or a continuation of that SLG game Missions‘s narrat

The Tim Schafer led studio is all hands on deck for Psychonauts 2 , a game which has really benefited from Microsoft’s support. Recently, Schafer admitted that had Microsoft not come along to purchase the studio, numerous features and segments would have had to have been cut from the game to prevent it from going over budget. With Microsoft now backing the studio, the game will be able to reach its full potent

Gears Tactics is able to mimic the visceral combat in the core Gears of War games by focusing on cover-shooting and bloody, over-the-top executions. Players are able to rush enemy Locusts and chainsaw them in half, just like they can in the other games, and they’re rewarded with an intense, close-up view of the action. Gears Tactics doesn’t shy away from the blood and gore that helped establish the main series’ identity, and players will find themselves demolishing countless Locusts throughout the course of Gears Tactics ‘ lengthy campai

Strategic options don’t stop on the battlefield. In addition to extensive skill trees per class, Gears Tactics features a comprehensive gear system. From weapon parts to armor pieces to grenades, there’s plenty of items to consider as you strive to build your squad. There’s even fun, non-gameplay affecting cosmetics such as changing your gunmetals, adding color or throwing on a pattern. While you can’t alter the main character’s looks, you’re free to change the looks and features of your other squad mates. Gears of War will always be known as a third-person shooter, but Splash Damage has perfectly adapted its mechanics to a tactics game. What you expect from a Gears game (chainsaw bayonets, bayonet charges, emergence holes, brutal finishers, etc.) is all here with few compromises. This is a Gears game, and it feels exactly right to play.

Its greatest offering is its brilliant take on the well-worn overwatch mechanic, which expends all of a soldier’s remaining AP (with at least 3 being given each unit every turn) in exchange for the ability to cover squadmates, reserving one shot for spotted enemies per AP allotted. What sets Gears Tactics ‘ overwatch apart from the crowd, though, is its spatial nature, forcing players to highlight a lane of a length and in a direction of their choosing. This not only encourages players to anticipate from where they want to defend against assault, but also allows them to prevent their units from taking unintended potshots at the wrong enemy unit and leaving their allies exposed. Along with Sniper Locust that pin down friendly units, enemies are similarly eager to box vulnerable Gears using overwatch until killed or interrup

One of the major diversions to traditional tactics games, a playthrough in Gears Tactics doesn’t end when the story ends. Veteran missions take place after the story is completed, and players lead their COGs in mission after mission, so anyone can keep playing with their favorite squadmates even after the story is o

There are some small annoyances that start to become more apparent as Gears Tactics long campaign unfolds, such as some common camera quirks and stiffness, protagonist Gabe Diaz’s mind-numbing tendency to audibly re-read mission briefs after a squad wipe, and character quips repeating every other time a unit’s selected. However, those and other little nuisances pale in comparison to the game’s droning sense of pace. Encounters feel like they drag on for ages thanks to an an inability to speed up or skip to the end of enemy turns and friendly buff animations that take too long to complete, and the overarching story is an even worse offender. Its first act is really an extended 5-10 hour tutorial, characters are uninteresting and hard to get invested in, and the plot doesn’t exactly amaze six mainline entries

In the Barracks is where everything happens in between different missions. So get familiar with the place. Spend skills points, swap out gear, go through cases on the battlefield, inspect characters, customize names and appearance or recruit new soldiers before embarking on another miss

Whatever the studio is working on, it does appear to be in a playable state as Phil Spencer has previously commented on the work the team has been doing and posted a picture of himself play testing the ga

Tactics’ status as a prequel allows it to further flesh out the overarching Gears story. For example, fans of Gears 5 protagonist Kait Diaz get to discover her father’s origins. The story also serves to further flesh out the COG and Stranded’s relationship and explain why, even following Gears of War 3, things are so icy. Aside from fleshing out the Gears universe, Gears Tactics’ story stands on its own. Gabe and his companions have strong chemistry from start to finish, though it does take a while for their gruff personas to soften up. Though many of the revelations may not be that surprising to longtime fans of the franchise, there are enough twists and turns to keep players on their toes. Ukkon, Tactics’ main antagonist, may not be as physically intimidating as RAAM or Skorge, but he does pack more personality than them or any of the franchise’s other signature villains, besides Myrrah.
